What’s been Going on?

May 27th, 2008 by Whiffle

(( Jan 28th, was the last time I posted here. Lot’s of stuff has been going on in RL preventing me from updating the site in a more regular fashion, but I’ve still been playing. And, of course doing a fair bit of RP while playing.

Whiffle has been PvP’ing a lot lately. Because of time constraints on my playtime there is little else for me to do at the moment. So the best way to improve on my much-loved toon, is to PvP.

He’s doing the Kara runs when I have time and is just starting to get into Arena as means of passing time with friends. By no means is he looking to go pro at that.

The great thing about WoW is that I can still enjoy this game and make Whiffle better (albeit slowly) even as a casual.

So a couple of things he’s working on other than instancing or PvPing:

I’ve got him saving Apexis Shards (x160) so that he’ll be able to purchase the Imbued Unstable Diamond, a meta gem that will give +14 Spell Damage and 5% Stun Resistence. Not a bad gem for PvP at all.

He’s also saving his Badges of Honor to get a hold of the Icon of The Silver Crescent. Popping that at the right time will hopefully help in finishing off enemies at lower health. The added spell damage on that is nice too.

:::

Despite the “gimped” gear Whiffle’s wearing, I’ve got him holding his own in the battlegrounds. The fact that I’m in the Rampage battlegroup doesn’t say much about skills, but the little Gnome Mage is consistently in the top five in scoring, Alliance side, whether we win or lose.

If he’s not, it’s because he’s attempting to solo objectives like capturing towers in AV.
I’m not a keyboard turner or clicker, which helps a great deal in PvP. Reaction time is everything and focus targeting has been a boon in helping me CounterSpell (even polymorphing) enemy healers.

:::

RP’ing in the battlegrounds has been fun. I’ve set up a macro to go along with Whiffle’s Ice Lance.

/cast Ice Lance
/s Pew!

It get’s a ton of laughs, even more so when I assist in killing the target. I’ll often /salute enemy players after a kill and /bow before engaging them.

During battle Whiffle will utter out RP statements:

/s So, %t, how’s the family?

/s Hi %t, I’m Whiffle, I’ll be your killer for today. (I have to time that one just right)

Granted, some Horde don’t take to that very well, and probably think I’m mocking them. Which, on many many occasions has had Whiffle continuously targeted by the same players.

Fine by me, as long as they’re not defending their flag or towers … It’s all fun … ))

Medivh

January 28th, 2008 by Whiffle

Surrounded by exhaustion and elation I sat down in the shallow waters of the swamp and took a deep breath. To the front were my companions; among them, Pooters stood nursing a laceration. He was a fine warrior and an even finer Gnome.

To the left, lay the remains of Chrono Lord Deja, behind me the shadowy remains of Temporus, and finally just over to my right … the half frozen, half charred remains of Aeonus lay twitching.

Ahead of me beyond, my companions, I watched in mounting disbelief. The betrayer Medivh finished his last incantations and behind him the Dark Portal was opened.

The Dark Portal Opens

Earlier when Chrono Lord launched his attack on us, he yelled “many lives could be saved!” and “the resulting wars could be erased!” The power to change the outcome of Azeroth’s past was in our hand. We could prevent Medivh from ever opening the Portal.

Then, there were the whispers from the Keepers of Time … without the tenuous alliance between Horde and Alliance how would we be able to stand against the forces of the Burning Legion? It’s true there was much strife between Horde and Alliance, but together we’ve accomplished what could not have been accomplished alone, where the Burning Legion was concerned. Could the Alliance have ever been the Alliance without the Horde?

Orcs poured through, and we watched as they surveyed the land and then went back through the portal to rally their forces.

The Horde enter Azeroth

We had chosen the lesser of evils. I had read many stories and tales of Medivh and of this event. Who would’ve known that one day, heroes of Azeroth would have aided him.

/sigh

I walked up to him, half of me in awe, half of me in resolve … and produced the key.

He looked at me, blinked, and then looked at the key, “That key, I recognize it. That is Khadgar’s key.” He paused as if struck by something, then lowered his voice to a murmur, “of course, I haven’t given it to him yet.”

He searched his robes, grasped at something, and then looked at me taking several steps back. Instantly I prepared myself.

“I come to you from a different time, on a purpose you perhaps have foreseen,” I said.

Medivh lowered his guard and nodded, “I seem to have memories about future events surrounding you and this key.”

He looked at me again, his skin visibly turning paler.

The Dark Portal Opens

“You have trying times ahead of you, Whiffle,” he continued. He knew my name! “Let us hope your strength does not fail you.”

I searched for something to say but couldn’t. Instead he added, “Regarding the key, I am to hand it to Khadgar when he’s sent to me. I couldn’t hope for a better apprentice. I suppose you will need a key of your own.”

He reached into his robe and pulled out his key. I was awestruck.

“Go on then,” he said, “and best of luck, Mage.”

“Mage-a-licious” I said … immediately slapping my head afterwards. Medivh looked at me with a puzzled look. “Look, don’t’ worry about it, it’s a futuristic Gnome term.”

I rode on the back of Fizzlelicious whose purrs were warm and caring. She was proud of me. In my possession was The Master’s Key, the key that would gain me entry into Karazhan.

Tizzlepip

“Where are you going?” I asked Elessidil.

“I’m off to join a party. We’re to venture into The Steamvaults. Khadgar has told me I can find the first Key Fragment there.”

“Ahh, yes,” I answered. It would appear Khadgar had all of us quite busy.

“Whiffle, we could use a hand.”

“Do you have enough?”

“Aye, we do, but …”

“Then Eless, I’ll leave you to it. I have some matters to attend to. Regarding Ginny’s nephew.”

“Ginny? Ginny Longberry? The reagent vendor in Ironforge?”

“Yes, why do you ask?”

“I dropped in a while back to pick up those supplies for you. She asked about you. Her cheeks flushed.”

“I don’t know what it is with her. She’s all giddy now.”

Eless picked up his shield, heaving it over his back, and secured his bracers in place.

“I’ll see you soon.”

I nodded and watched him leave. Normally I would’ve joined him., but I had already recovered the First Fragment. In fact, I’d recovered all three and was now preparing myself to speak to Medihv. But there was this matter called Tizzlepip.

Fizzlelicious and I caught up with him at Azure Watch, the small Draenei outpost east of The Exodar.

“Come home, Tizzle,” I asked him.

“I … I … can’t,” he responded.

“Ginny sent me to get you. Look, she’s not worth it. You’ll never see her again.”

Tizzle came out of stealth and walked over to me. He was a broken hearted Gnome. Months ago in Stormwind, a Draenei ran by him, her beauty capturing him. He’s been trying to find her ever since.

“It’s not her,” he said.

“What are you talking about?”

Tizzle lowered his voice, “she’s not the reason I’m here. I mean she was beautiful and all, but…”

Uh oh, I thought, “but what Tizzle?”

“Umm, I have a slight problem.”

“Okay, slowly.” I could see he was getting anxious.

“Did you ever see her legs?”

“Tizzle, I wasn’t there when you first saw her. So, no”

“Have you ever noticed their legs?”

Draenei are a noble race. Tall and strong, the women are quite beautiful, but I had never really noticed their legs.

He continued, “more to the point, Whiffle. Have you ever noticed their hooves?”

And then it struck me like an anvil falling on my head.

“Tizzle, please don’t tell me you have a hoof fetish.”

He flushed.

“Tizzle, you have a HOOF fetish?! What in Elune’s name is wrong with you? You’re a Gnome, for Elune’s sake.”

“Back off Whiffle,” he said defensively, “at least I’m not in Thunder Bluff.”

/ O.o

How was I going to explain this to Ginny? I grabbed him by the ear and started dragging him behind me. He tried to stealth, but he was too young.

“Where are we going?!” he demanded of me.

“The Exodar, we’re going to get you some help.”

“Oh goodie, maybe someone can teach me to how to give Hoof-icures.”

I knew right then Tizzle’s recovery was going to be long one.

Gul’dan

December 19th, 2007 by Whiffle

(( It’s cold up here in the frosty north … heh, WTB +23 Frost Resistance … but I love this time of year and all the cheer it brings. To all of you that may read this, all the best to you and yours, have a Happy Holiday, a Merry Christmas and Warm Winterveil ))

Fizzlelicious was tired this morning. So we decided that she should rest more. Our new home was in Shadowmoon Valley. We were enjoying the hospitality of the Wildhammer Clan. Horatio, my Netherwhelpling pet didn’t seem to take to the area all that well either. A scent (aura?) from the east seemed to disturb him.

So, I decided that my trusty new Snowy Gryphon would be my escort, he’d proven to be a very reliable mount and met the approval of ‘Licious easily. He was a bit wild in the air though, having a tendency to take steep spinning dives and then pulling up. Which was all well and good … and well let’s face it, more fun than a Moonkin dance convention.

But I’d rather he held off until AFTER I’d had my mid-flight meal instead of DURING.

But I digress, in the central region of Shadowmoon Valley, Seamus and I stumbled upon this character.

Gul

That, my dear friends, is Gul’dan … or at least the vision of Gul’dan. Oh, never heard of him? Well, he’s only the Master of the Inner Circle of the Shadow cancel and Destroyer of DREAMS!! I found it quite odd that I was even able to get this close to it.

What is so significant about the Orc floating above my head? Well for one, his powers were immense … two, at the pinnacle of attaining his power, Gul’dan was contacted by the crazed nutbar of a Sorcerer, Medivh (who at the time was possessed by the Dark Titan Sargeras) … see where I’m going? This was one serious Orc.

Medivh pretty much promised Gul’dan God-like stature, which he could attain once inside the Tomb of Sargeras, if he, in exchange, would use the Horde to conquer Azeroth. Well God-like is pretty cool, so Gul’dan here, decided it would be good for him to be God-like and helped Medivh open the Dark Portal between Azeroth and Draenor.

This is a serious Orc

Gul’dan is a paramount source for all the trouble that has arisen back home in Azeroth.

When Gul’dan eventually opened the Tomb of Sargeras, and entered, he didn’t find the Godliness he was looking for. Instead … he found a host of crazed demons that tore him to shreds. How’s that for a /surprise!

It was Illidan who later found the tomb using Gul’dan’s memories from his skull. Not much is known about Gul’dan after he met his fate, but his final testament is rumoured to have been buried with him in the Tomb, that later caved in.

I’ve always wondered two things though. One, how in Elune’s name was he able to write a testament while being torn to shreds … and two, how is he able to FLOAT IN MID AIR LIKE THAT?!

I need to learn that trick

(( Occasionally, since the majority of my WoW time is on the MacBook Pro and it’s easy to capture video, I’ll post a vid of Whiffle’s antics … this first isn’t much to boast about.

But, he’s 70 and flying around … ))
